I have read both books, the second being, Not a Very Nice Woman. I like them both, and it appears they have been re-edited as I didn't run into any issues with typo's. It is a good story, a lighter read. I prefer a bit more intensity, but I think it will have a broad appeal. It is another book with intermingling cases, but not too far fetched. The relationships between the coppers is good. They are dedicated to eachother and their jobs. Good descriptions of surroundings where the scenes unfold. They are worth a read. Sorry, no details as no one wants to hear the end of a movie before seeing it:) Enjoy

Late of the Payroll Inspector Rase Novels Book 1 eBook John Eider Reviews
I found this book very difficult to read because I do not live in England and the wording did not flow for me. there were many local words that I did not know the meaning of so I sometimes couldn't follow the plot. The use of first names for someone one time and the last name for the same person another time was hard to follow.
Way to many players.
This book very much reminded me of a Sherlock Holmes, Colombo series with a strange and unexpected plot/twist. The use of the 'old English' quite charming. It offered a good bit of comedy as prone to the 'dry humor' of the English. There was a bit of departure in some of the chapters but the reader could still follow.
I don't really like British novels. Hard for me to follow the lingo at times but this one was not too bad. Good story with good, thoughtful ending. Inspector Rase is backed by good characters and the story is excellent and surprising. You won't know the ending until you get there.
Recommend for mystery lovers
I loved this book. It is a classic British detective story with a good plot, a cast of interesting characters and a refreshing minimum of blood and gore. While the book could use a better proofreader, the mistakes were not so onerous that they decreased my enjoyment of the book.
The plot developed well. The Inspector was professional yet sympathetic. There were no gratuitous descriptions of sex or violence to pad out the story. I think in many detective stories at the lower end of the market sex and violence are what car chases and sex are to b grade movies. I will be reading the next novel.
British Fun. Story has twists and a lot of characters but not hard to follow. With any read that is not your normal dialect you may have to re read a few lines. But the humor is there. Not a gore mystery, which I loved as there is too much of that in book land.
I tried to like this book. I think everything the cops ended up with came to them by accident. One thing I really did like though was the ending. I think that pretty much reflects real life. The cops know who, but have no evidence, and they walk free.
For those looking for a story that plods along to a conclusion, and I know there are those that do, you can't go wrong with this book.
